Enduring Communities is a collaborative project dedicated to educating K-12 students in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah about the Japanese American experience during World War II.
Today, 60 years later, educational materials in these 5 states seldom refer to the Japanese American camps in those states. Newly developed curriculum materials include lesson plans, video documentaries and oral history interviews.
Arizona is of particular interest because the “dividing line” split the Japanese American community into those who were removed and those who were. The Arizona camps additionally were the only ones located on American Indian reservations.
